A Note to Teachers:
This lesson is designed to be used within the context of the Mexican Revolution or as a supplemental resource for social movements and revolutions. It is not intended to be a history lesson on the Mexican Revolution or serve as a framework for how all social movements and revolutions take place, but rather as an alternative to the normative Euro-centric models found in most curriculums.
The lesson is designed to be done by partners or small groups of 3 or 4. It is should be expected that the lesson take at least one 90 minute session, but no more than two (depending on the context in which it is utilized).
A Note to Students:
This lesson is meant to provide a voice to people and events that you may not find in your typical textbook. Its goal is to encourage a broader perspective on social problems and the similarities that can be found across different revolutions and social movements. Never heard of the Zapatistas? No problem. You will soon find that their cause and their struggle is one that you may have seen before in other parts of the world and may even be familiar with yourself.
